¹² Therefore do not let sin reign^(A) in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. ¹³ Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness,^(B) but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.^{(C) 14} For sin shall no longer be your master,^(D) because you are not under the law,^(E) but under grace.^(F)

³⁹ When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Praise be to the Lord, who has upheld my cause against Nabal for treating me with contempt. He has kept his servant from doing wrong and has brought Nabal’s wrongdoing down on his own head.”

Then David sent word to Abigail, asking her to become his wife.

¹⁶ So I strive always to keep my conscience clear^(A) before God and man.

¹² Anyone who shows contempt^(A) for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering^(B) there to the Lord your God is to be put to death.^(C) You must purge the evil from Israel.^{(D) 13} All the people will hear and be afraid, and will not be contemptuous again.^(E)

⁶ Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept^(A) you from sinning against me.^(B) That is why I did not let you touch her.
