²⁹ “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you ^(B)of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, ^(C)and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, ^[a]according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, ³¹ he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, ^(D)that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.

³⁵ Therefore He also says in another Psalm:

³⁶ “For David, after he had served ^[a]his own generation by the will of God, ^(B)fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and ^[b]saw corruption; ³⁷ but He whom God raised up ^[c]saw no corruption. ³⁸ Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that ^(C)through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins;

^18 (A)I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, ^(B)I am alive forevermore. Amen. And ^(C)I have the keys of ^[a]Hades and of Death.

¹³ The sea gave up the dead who were in it, ^(A)and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. ^(B)And they were judged, each one according to his works.

²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

³⁵ And the angel answered and said to her, ^(A)“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called ^(B)the Son of God.
