Praise for God’s Universal Glory

Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights!
Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his host!(A)

Praise him, sun and moon;

He established them forever and ever;
    he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.[a](D)

Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you sea monsters and all deeps,(E)
fire and hail, snow and frost,
    stormy wind fulfilling his command!(F)

Mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars!(G)
10 Wild animals and all cattle,
    creeping things and flying birds!

11 Kings of the earth and all peoples,
    princes and all rulers of the earth!
12 Young men and women alike,
    old and young together!

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his glory is above earth and heaven.(H)
14 He has raised up a horn for his people,
    praise for all his faithful,
    for the people of Israel who are close to him.
Praise the Lord!(I)

47 Whoever is from God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear them is that you are not from God.”(A)

48 The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?”(B) 49 Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50 Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.(C) 51 Very truly, I tell you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.”(D) 52 The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’(E) 53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets also died. Who do you claim to be?”(F) 54 Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, he of whom you say, ‘He is our God,’(G) 55 though you do not know him. But I know him; if I would say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I keep his word.(H) 56 Your ancestor Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day; he saw it and was glad.”(I) 57 Then the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”[a] 58 Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, before Abraham was, I am.”(J) 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.(K)

God’s Wonders at the Exodus

[a]When Israel went out from Egypt,
    the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,(A)
Judah became God’s[b] sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.(B)

The sea looked and fled;
    Jordan turned back.(C)
The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.(D)

Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
    O Jordan, that you turn back?
O mountains, that you skip like rams?
    O hills, like lambs?

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,(E)
who turns the rock into a pool of water,
    the flint into a spring of water.(F)

Psalm 115

The Impotence of Idols and the Greatness of God

[a]Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
    for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.(A)
Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”(B)

Our God is in the heavens;
    he does whatever he pleases.(C)
Their idols are silver and gold,
    the work of human hands.(D)
They have mouths, but they do not speak;
    they have eyes, but they do not see.
They have ears, but they do not hear;
    they have noses, but they do not smell.
They have hands, but they do not feel;
    they have feet, but they do not walk;
    they make no sound in their throats.
Those who make them are like them;
    so are all who trust in them.(E)

O Israel, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and their shield.(F)
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord!
    He is their help and their shield.(G)

12 The Lord has been mindful of us; he will bless us;
    he will bless the house of Israel;
    he will bless the house of Aaron;
13 he will bless those who fear the Lord,
    both small and great.

14 May the Lord give you increase,
    both you and your children.(H)
15 May you be blessed by the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.(I)

16 The heavens are the Lord’s heavens,
    but the earth he has given to human beings.(J)
17 The dead do not praise the Lord,
    nor do any who go down into silence.(K)
18 But we will bless the Lord
    from this time on and forevermore.
Praise the Lord!(L)
