¹⁷ Do not hide your face from your servant,
    for I am in distress—make haste to answer me.^(A)

¹ To you, O Lord, I call;
    my rock, do not refuse to hear me,
for if you are silent to me,
    I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.^(A)

⁹     Do not hide your face from me.

¹⁸ For Sheol cannot thank you;
    death cannot praise you;
those who go down to the Pit cannot hope
    for your faithfulness.^(A)

² Do not hide your face from me
    in the day of my distress.
Incline your ear to me;
    answer me speedily in the day when I call.^(A)

⁴ I am counted among those who go down to the Pit;
    I am like those who have no help,^(A)
5 like those forsaken among the dead,
    like the slain that lie in the grave,
like those whom you remember no more,
    for they are cut off from your hand.^(B)
6 You have put me in the depths of the Pit,
    in the regions dark and deep.^(C)

³ I am weary with my crying;
    my throat is parched.
My eyes grow dim
    with waiting for my God.^(A)
