⁸ Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city^(A)—which is figuratively called Sodom^(B) and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified.^{(C) 9} For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation^(D) will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial.^(E)

³⁷ They were put to death by stoning;^[a](A) they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword.^(B) They went about in sheepskins and goatskins,^(C) destitute, persecuted and mistreated—

⁹ Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God,^(A) who raises the dead.^(B)

³⁶ As it is written:

¹⁸ The king then ordered Doeg, “You turn and strike down the priests.”^(A) So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.^{(B) 19} He also put to the sword^(C) Nob,^(D) the town of the priests, with its men and women, its children and infants, and its cattle, donkeys and sheep.
