⁵ Afterward the Israelites will return and seek^(A) the Lord their God and David their king.^(B) They will come trembling^(C) to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.^(D)

⁴ Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp^(A) in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. ⁵ For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep^(B) any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah^(C) the Hittite.

³⁴ “‘But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees.

¹² Nevertheless, for the sake of David^(A) your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. ¹³ Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe^(B) for the sake^(C) of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”^(D)
