Psalm 131

A song of ascents. Of David.

¹My heart is not proud,^(A) Lord,
    my eyes are not haughty;^(B)
I do not concern myself with great matters^(C)
    or things too wonderful for me.^(D)
²But I have calmed and quieted myself,^(E)
    I am like a weaned child with its mother;
    like a weaned child I am content.^(F)

³Israel, put your hope^(G) in the Lord
both now and forevermore.^(H)

Proverbs 29:1-3

New International Version

29 Whoever remains stiff-necked^(A) after many rebukes
will suddenly be destroyed^(B)—without remedy.^(C)

²When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice;^(D)
when the wicked rule,^(E) the people groan.^(F)

³A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,^(G)
but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.^(H)

John 11:38-44

New International Version

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

³⁸Jesus, once more deeply moved,^(A) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.^(B) ³⁹“Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”^(C)

⁴⁰Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,^(D) you will see the glory of God?”^(E)

⁴¹So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up^(F) and said, “Father,^(G) I thank you that you have heard me. ⁴²I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,^(H) that they may believe that you sent me.”^(I)

⁴³When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”^(J) ⁴⁴The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen,^(K) and a cloth around his face.^(L)

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

To the Church in Philadelphia

⁷“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia^(A) write:

These are the words of him who is holy^(B) and true,^(C) who holds the key of David.^(D) What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. ⁸I know your deeds.^(E) See, I have placed before you an open door^(F) that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.^(G) ⁹I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan,^(H) who claim to be Jews though they are not,^(I) but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet^(J) and acknowledge that I have loved you.^(K) ¹⁰Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you^(L) from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world^(M) to test^(N) the inhabitants of the earth.^(O)

¹¹I am coming soon.^(P) Hold on to what you have,^(Q) so that no one will take your crown.^(R) ¹²The one who is victorious^(S) I will make a pillar^(T) in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God^(U) and the name of the city of my God,^(V) the new Jerusalem,^(W) which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. ¹³Whoever has ears, let them hear^(X) what the Spirit says to the churches.
