⁸ So I was left alone to see this great vision. My strength left me, and my complexion grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength.^{(A) 9} When^[a] I heard the sound of his words, I fell into a trance, face to the ground.^(B)

¹⁰ But then a hand touched me and roused me to my hands and knees.^{(C) 11} He said to me, “Daniel, greatly beloved, pay attention to the words that I am going to speak to you. Stand on your feet, for I have now been sent to you.” So while he was speaking this word to me, I stood up trembling.^(D)

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe, ²⁹ for indeed our God is a consuming fire.^(A)

²¹ Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.”)^(A)

Shining as Lights in the World

¹² Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence but much more now in my absence, work on your own salvation with fear and trembling,^(A)

Nadab and Abihu

10 Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu each took his censer, put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and they offered unholy fire before the Lord, such as he had not commanded them.^{(A) 2} And fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord.^{(B) 3} Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord meant when he said,

And Aaron was silent.^(C)

²¹ “Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found, for the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us is great, because our ancestors did not keep the word of the Lord, to act in accordance with all that is written in this book.”^(A)
