⁸ So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and ^(A)no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed,^{[a] (B)}and I retained no strength. ⁹ Then I heard the sound of his words, ^(C)and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep ^(D)with my face to the ground.

¹⁰ And behold, ^(E)a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. ¹¹ And he said to me, “O Daniel, ^(F)man greatly loved, ^(G)understand the words that I speak to you, and ^(H)stand upright, for ^(I)now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling.

²⁸ Therefore let us be grateful for receiving ^(A)a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus ^(B)let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, ²⁹ for our ^(C)God is a consuming fire.

²¹ Indeed, ^(A)so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.”

¹² Therefore, my beloved, ^(A)as you have always ^(B)obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,

The Death of Nadab and Abihu

10 Now ^(A)Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, ^(B)each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered ^(C)unauthorized^[a] fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them. ² And fire ^(D)came out from before the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. ³ Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Among ^(E)those who are near me ^(F)I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” ^(G)And Aaron held his peace.

²¹ “Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found. For great is ^(A)the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book.”
