¹² Are you not from of old,
    O Lord my God, my Holy One?
    You^[a] shall not die.
O Lord, you have marked them for judgment,
    and you, O Rock, have established them for punishment.^(A)

¹⁶ O Lord, by these things people live,
    and in all these is the life of my spirit.^[a]
    Oh, restore me to health and make me live!
¹⁷ Surely it was for my welfare
    that I had great bitterness,
but you have held back^[b] my life
    from the pit of destruction,
for you have cast all my sins
    behind your back.^(A)
18 For Sheol cannot thank you;
    death cannot praise you;
those who go down to the Pit cannot hope
    for your faithfulness.^(B)
19 The living, the living, they thank you,
    as I do this day;
fathers make known to children
    your faithfulness.^(C)

²⁰ The Lord will save me,
    and we will sing to stringed instruments^[c]
all the days of our lives,
    at the house of the Lord.^(D)

¹⁷ O God, from my youth you have taught me,
    and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.^(A)
18 So even to old age and gray hairs,
    O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might
