17 (A)You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, (B)for the Lord is with you.”

18 And Jehoshaphat (C)bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshiping the Lord. 19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.

20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: (D)Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, (E)and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:

Hanani’s Message to Asa

And at that time (A)Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him: (B)“Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand. Were (C)the Ethiopians and (D)the Lubim not a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you relied on the Lord, He delivered them into your (E)hand. (F)For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this (G)you have done foolishly; therefore from now on (H)you shall have wars.”

O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

12 So the Lord (D)struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

14 Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, (A)and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. 15 And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 16 So David did as God commanded him, and they drove back the army of the Philistines from [a]Gibeon as far as Gezer.
