⁵ So he brought the people down to the water. And the Lord said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.” ⁶ And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water.

⁴² Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, ^[a]if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

¹¹ searching what, or what manner of time, ^(A)the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

⁹ But we see Jesus, ^(A)who was made ^[a]a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death ^(B)crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death ^(C)for everyone.

Bringing Many Sons to Glory

¹⁰ For it was fitting for Him, ^(D)for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation ^(E)perfect through sufferings.

^7 (A)but ^[a]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form ^(B)of a bondservant, and ^(C)coming in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and ^(D)became ^(E)obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. ^9 (F)Therefore God also ^(G)has highly exalted Him and ^(H)given Him the name which is above every name, ^10 (I)that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and ^(J)that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹¹ So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink ^(A)the cup which My Father has given Me?”

^26 (A)Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His ^(B)glory?”
