    my body is thin and gaunt.^(C)

⁴ My heart is blighted and withered like grass;^(A)
    I forget to eat my food.^(B)
5 In my distress I groan aloud^(C)
    and am reduced to skin and bones.

¹⁰ When I weep and fast,^(A)
    I must endure scorn;

⁵ My wounds^(A) fester and are loathsome^(B)
    because of my sinful folly.^(C)
6 I am bowed down^(D) and brought very low;
    all day long I go about mourning.^(E)
7 My back is filled with searing pain;^(F)
    there is no health^(G) in my body.
⁸ I am feeble and utterly crushed;^(H)
    I groan^(I) in anguish of heart.^(J)

¹³ Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth^(A)
    and humbled myself with fasting.^(B)
When my prayers returned to me unanswered,
¹⁴     I went about mourning^(C)
    as though for my friend or brother.
I bowed my head in grief
    as though weeping for my mother.

³ When I kept silent,^(A)
    my bones wasted away^(B)
    through my groaning^(C) all day long.
⁴ For day and night
    your hand was heavy^(D) on me;
my strength was sapped^(E)
