23 Some went out on the sea(A) in ships;(B)
    they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24 They saw the works of the Lord,(C)
    his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25 For he spoke(D) and stirred up a tempest(E)
    that lifted high the waves.(F)
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
    in their peril(G) their courage melted(H) away.
27 They reeled(I) and staggered like drunkards;
    they were at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cried(J) out to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he brought them out of their distress.(K)
29 He stilled the storm(L) to a whisper;
    the waves(M) of the sea[a] were hushed.(N)
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
    and he guided them(O) to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks(P) to the Lord for his unfailing love(Q)
    and his wonderful deeds(R) for mankind.
32 Let them exalt(S) him in the assembly(T) of the people
    and praise him in the council of the elders.

Jesus Arrested(A)

47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”(B) 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.

51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.

52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,(C) and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts,(D) and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour(E)—when darkness reigns.”(F)

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days.(A)

31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.[a](B)

32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon,(C) Barak,(D) Samson(E) and Jephthah,(F) about David(G) and Samuel(H) and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms,(I) administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions,(J) 34 quenched the fury of the flames,(K) and escaped the edge of the sword;(L) whose weakness was turned to strength;(M) and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.(N) 35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again.(O) There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. 36 Some faced jeers and flogging,(P) and even chains and imprisonment.(Q) 37 They were put to death by stoning;[b](R) they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword.(S) They went about in sheepskins and goatskins,(T) destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves(U) and in holes in the ground.

39 These were all commended(V) for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,(W) 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us(X) would they be made perfect.(Y)
