⁹ But for the sake of my name, I brought them out of Egypt.^(A) I did it to keep my name from being profaned^(B) in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites.

¹⁶ But I have raised you up^[a] for this very purpose,^(A) that I might show you my power^(B) and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.

¹⁴ But for the sake of my name I did what would keep it from being profaned^(A) in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.^(B)

¹⁷ For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”^[a](A)

⁴⁴ You will know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for my name’s sake^(A) and not according to your evil ways and your corrupt practices, you people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.^(B)’”

²² But I withheld^(A) my hand, and for the sake of my name^(B) I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

¹³ Moses said to the Lord, “Then the Egyptians will hear about it! By your power you brought these people up from among them.^{(A) 14} And they will tell the inhabitants of this land about it. They have already heard^(B) that you, Lord, are with these people^(C) and that you, Lord, have been seen face to face,^(D) that your cloud stays over them,^(E) and that you go before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.^{(F) 15} If you put all these people to death, leaving none alive, the nations who have heard this report about you will say, ¹⁶ ‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath,^(G) so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’^(H)
