¹⁵ So he gave them^(A) what they asked for,
    but sent a wasting disease^(B) among them.

¹⁶ Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
    will send a wasting disease^(A) upon his sturdy warriors;^(B)
under his pomp^(C) a fire^(D) will be kindled
    like a blazing flame.

²⁹ They ate till they were gorged—^(A)
    he had given them what they craved.
³⁰ But before they turned from what they craved,
    even while the food was still in their mouths,^(B)
31 God’s anger rose against them;
    he put to death the sturdiest^(C) among them,
    cutting down the young men of Israel.

¹⁶ From the ends of the earth^(A) we hear singing:^(B)
    “Glory^(C) to the Righteous One.”^(D)

But I said, “I waste away, I waste away!^(E)
    Woe^(F) to me!
The treacherous^(G) betray!
    With treachery the treacherous betray!^(H)”
