¹⁷ The God of this people ^[a]Israel ^(A)chose our fathers, and exalted the people ^(B)when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with ^[b]an uplifted arm He ^(C)brought them out of it.

^11 (A)Now a famine and great ^[a]trouble came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and our fathers found no sustenance. ^12 (B)But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. ¹³ And the ^(C)second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s family became known to the Pharaoh. ^14 (D)Then Joseph sent and called his father Jacob and ^(E)all his relatives to him, ^[b]seventy-five people. ^15 (F)So Jacob went down to Egypt; ^(G)and he died, he and our fathers.

⁴ To Isaac I gave ^(A)Jacob and Esau. To ^(B)Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, ^(C)but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

²⁸ And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years.

^6 (A)The land of Egypt is before you. Have your father and brothers dwell in the best of the land; let them dwell ^(B)in the land of Goshen. And if you know any competent men among them, then make them chief herdsmen over my livestock.”

⁷ Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob ^(C)blessed Pharaoh. ⁸ Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How old are you?”

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, ^(D)“The days of the years of my ^[a]pilgrimage are ^(E)one hundred and thirty years; ^(F)few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and ^(G)they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.”
