The Patriarchs in Egypt

^9 (A)“And the patriarchs, becoming envious, ^(B)sold Joseph into Egypt. ^(C)But God was with him

³⁶ Now ^(A)the ^[a]Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.

^20 (A)But as for you, you meant evil against me; but ^(B)God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.

⁴ And Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” So they came near. Then he said: “I am Joseph your brother, ^(A)whom you sold into Egypt. ⁵ But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; ^(B)for God sent me before you to preserve life.

⁷ And God ^(A)sent me before you to preserve a ^[a]posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. ⁸ So now it was not you who sent me here, but ^(B)God; and He has made me ^(C)a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ^(D)ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

Joseph a Slave in Egypt

39 Now Joseph had been taken ^(A)down to Egypt. And ^(B)Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, ^(C)bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there.

²⁷ Come and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and ^(A)let not our hand be upon him, for he is ^(B)our brother and ^(C)our flesh.” And his brothers listened. ²⁸ Then ^(D)Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, ^(E)and sold him to the Ishmaelites for ^(F)twenty shekels of silver. And they took Joseph to Egypt.
