Psalm 104:31-35

New International Version

³¹May the glory of the Lord^(A) endure forever;
may the Lord rejoice in his works^(B)—
³²he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,^(C)
who touches the mountains,^(D) and they smoke.^(E)

³³I will sing^(F) to the Lord all my life;
    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
³⁴May my meditation be pleasing to him,
    as I rejoice^(G) in the Lord.
³⁵But may sinners vanish^(H) from the earth
    and the wicked be no more.^(I)

Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time^(A)

³¹Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem,^(B) and everything that is written by the prophets^(C) about the Son of Man^(D) will be fulfilled. ³²He will be delivered over to the Gentiles.^(E) They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; ³³they will flog him^(F) and kill him.^(G) On the third day^(H) he will rise again.”^(I)

³⁴The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.^(J)

A Blind Beggar Receives His Sight^(K)

³⁵As Jesus approached Jericho,^(L) a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. ³⁶When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. ³⁷They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”^(M)

³⁸He called out, “Jesus, Son of David,^(N) have mercy^(O) on me!”

³⁹Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”^(P)

⁴⁰Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, ⁴¹“What do you want me to do for you?”

“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

⁴²Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”^(Q) ⁴³Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.^(R)

Hebrews 3:7-19

Warning Against Unbelief

⁷So, as the Holy Spirit says:^(A)

“Today, if you hear his voice,
⁸    do not harden your hearts^(B)
as you did in the rebellion,
    during the time of testing in the wilderness,
⁹where your ancestors tested and tried me,
    though for forty years they saw what I did.^(C)
¹⁰That is why I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray,
    and they have not known my ways.’
¹¹So I declared on oath in my anger,^(D)
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ^(E)”^[a]^(F)

¹²See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.^(G) ¹³But encourage one another daily,^(H) as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.^(I) ¹⁴We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold^(J) our original conviction firmly to the very end.^(K) ¹⁵As has just been said:

“Today, if you hear his voice,

¹⁶Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?^(M) ¹⁷And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness?^(N) ¹⁸And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest^(O) if not to those who disobeyed?^(P) ¹⁹So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.^(Q)
