Their skin has shriveled on their bones;^(B)
    it has become as dry as a stick.

²² A cheerful heart is good medicine,
    but a crushed^(A) spirit dries up the bones.^(B)

⁸ Away from me,^(A) all you who do evil,^(B)
    for the Lord has heard my weeping.

⁸ I am feeble and utterly crushed;^(A)
    I groan^(B) in anguish of heart.^(C)

⁹ All my longings^(D) lie open before you, Lord;
    my sighing^(E) is not hidden from you.
¹⁰ My heart pounds,^(F) my strength fails^(G) me;
    even the light has gone from my eyes.^(H)

³ When I kept silent,^(A)
    my bones wasted away^(B)
    through my groaning^(C) all day long.
⁴ For day and night
    your hand was heavy^(D) on me;
my strength was sapped^(E)
    as in the heat of summer.^[a]

All night long I flood my bed with weeping^(C)
