Psalm 101
A Sovereign’s Pledge of Integrity and Justice
Of David. A Psalm.
1 I will sing of loyalty and of justice;
to you, O Lord, I will sing.(A)
2 I will study the way that is blameless.
When shall I attain it?
I will walk with integrity of heart
within my house;(B)
3 I will not set before my eyes
anything that is base.
I hate the work of those who fall away;
it shall not cling to me.(C)
4 Perverseness of heart shall be far from me;
I will know nothing of evil.(D)
5 One who secretly slanders a neighbor
I will destroy.
A haughty look and an arrogant heart
I will not tolerate.(E)
6 I will look with favor on the faithful in the land,
so that they may live with me;
whoever walks in the way that is blameless
shall minister to me.(F)
7 No one who practices deceit
shall remain in my house;
no one who utters lies
shall continue in my presence.
8 Morning by morning I will destroy
all the wicked in the land,
cutting off all evildoers
from the city of the Lord.(G)

13 “Enter through the narrow gate, for the gate is wide and the road is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it.(A) 14 For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
A Tree and Its Fruit
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.(B) 16 You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns or figs from thistles?(C) 17 In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.(D) 20 Thus you will know them by their fruits.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.(E)

122 Guarantee your servant’s well-being;

125 I am your servant; give me understanding,

127 Truly I love your commandments

134 Redeem me from human oppression,

135 Make your face shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.(M)
136 My eyes shed streams of tears
because your law is not kept.(N)
137 You are righteous, O Lord,
and your judgments are right.(O)
138 You have appointed your decrees in righteousness
and in all faithfulness.(P)
139 My zeal consumes me
because my foes forget your words.(Q)
140 Your promise is well tried,
and your servant loves it.(R)
141 I am small and despised,
yet I do not forget your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
and your law is the truth.(S)
143 Trouble and anguish have come upon me,
but your commandments are my delight.(T)
