⁸ He lies in wait^(A) near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.^(B)
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;

¹⁴ With his own spear you pierced his head
    when his warriors stormed out to scatter us,^(A)
gloating as though about to devour
    the wretched^(B) who were in hiding.

¹⁷ “But your eyes and your heart
    are set only on dishonest gain,^(A)
on shedding innocent blood^(B)
    and on oppression and extortion.”^(C)

¹² A troublemaker and a villain,
    who goes about with a corrupt mouth,
¹³     who winks maliciously with his eye,^(A)
    signals with his feet
    and motions with his fingers,^(B)

¹¹ If they say, “Come along with us;
    let’s lie in wait^(A) for innocent blood,
    let’s ambush some harmless soul;
¹² let’s swallow^(B) them alive, like the grave,
    and whole, like those who go down to the pit;^(C)

⁶ They slay the widow^(A) and the foreigner;
    they murder the fatherless.^(B)

¹¹ They have tracked me down, they now surround me,^(A)
    with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
