^16 (A)He who hears you hears Me, ^(B)he who rejects you rejects Me, and ^(C)he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

²² Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his ^[a]father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said, “The Lord look on it, and ^(A)repay!”

^9 (A)Why have you ^(B)despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? ^(C)You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore, ^(D)the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

^20 (A)but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have ^(B)despised the Lord who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, ^(C)“Why did we ever come up out of Egypt?” ’ ”

⁵ Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; ^(A)from the hand of every beast I will require it, and ^(B)from the hand of man. From the hand of every ^(C)man’s brother I will require the life of man.

^8 (A)Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, ^(B)who^[a] has also given us His Holy Spirit.

⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, ^51 (A)from the blood of Abel to ^(B)the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.
