⁹ You rule over the surging sea;
    when its waves mount up, you still them.^(A)

⁷ who stilled the roaring of the seas,^(A)
    the roaring of their waves,
    and the turmoil of the nations.^(B)

²⁵ For he spoke^(A) and stirred up a tempest^(B)
    that lifted high the waves.^(C)
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
    in their peril^(D) their courage melted^(E) away.
²⁷ They reeled^(F) and staggered like drunkards;
    they were at their wits’ end.
²⁸ Then they cried^(G) out to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he brought them out of their distress.^(H)
29 He stilled the storm^(I) to a whisper;
    the waves^(J) of the sea^[a] were hushed.^(K)

³ The seas^(A) have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;^(B)
    the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.^(C)
4 Mightier than the thunder^(D) of the great waters,
    mightier than the breakers^(E) of the sea—
    the Lord on high is mighty.^(F)
