⁵ The valiant^(A) lie plundered,
    they sleep their last sleep;^(B)
not one of the warriors
    can lift his hands.

¹² Listen^(A) to me, you stubborn-hearted,^(B)
    you who are now far from my righteousness.^(C)

¹⁸ King of Assyria, your shepherds^[a] slumber;^(A)
    your nobles lie down to rest.^(B)
Your people are scattered^(C) on the mountains
    with no one to gather them.

³⁹ But while they are aroused,
    I will set out a feast for them
    and make them drunk,^(A)
so that they shout with laughter—
    then sleep forever^(B) and not awake,”
declares the Lord.^(C)

³ Look on me^(A) and answer,^(B) Lord my God.
    Give light to my eyes,^(C) or I will sleep in death,^(D)
