They have brought the (F)vessels of [c]His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, (G)which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand (H)and owns all your ways, you have not glorified. 24 Then the [d]fingers of the hand were sent from Him, and this writing was written.
25 “And this is the inscription that was written:
[e]MENE, MENE, [f]TEKEL, [g]UPHARSIN.
26 This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; 27 TEKEL: (I)You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; 28 PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the (J)Medes and (K)Persians.”[h]

Or as if a staff could lift up, as if it were not wood!

Will send leanness among his fat ones;
And under his glory
He will kindle a burning

15 Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it,
or the saw boast against the one who uses it?(X)
As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up,
or a club(Y) brandish the one who is not wood!
16 Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty,
will send a wasting disease(Z) upon his sturdy warriors;(AA)
under his pomp(AB) a fire(AC) will be kindled
like a blazing flame.
