¹⁴ For ^(A)He Himself knows ^[a]our form;
He ^(B)is mindful that we are nothing but ^(C)dust.

⁴ I ^(A)sought the Lord and He answered me,
And ^(B)rescued me from all my fears.

¹⁶ Your ^(A)eyes have seen my formless substance;
And in ^(B)Your book were written
All the ^(C)days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

⁷ No one can by any means ^(A)redeem another
Or give God a ^(B)ransom for him—
⁸ For ^(C)the redemption of ^[a]his soul is priceless,
And he should cease imagining forever—
⁹ That he might ^(D)live on eternally,
That he might not ^[b](E)undergo decay.

¹⁰ For he sees that even ^(F)wise people die;
The ^(G)foolish and the stupid alike perish
And ^(H)leave their wealth to others.
¹¹ Their ^[c](I)inner thought is that their houses ^(J)are forever
And their dwelling places to all generations;
They have ^(K)named their lands after their own names.
¹² But ^(L)man in his splendor will not endure;
He is like the animals that ^[d]perish.

¹³ This is the ^(M)way of those who are foolish,
And of those after them who ^(N)approve their words. Selah
¹⁴ Like sheep they sink down ^(O)to ^[e]Sheol;
Death will be their shepherd;
And the ^(P)upright will rule over them in the morning,
And their form shall be for ^[f]Sheol ^(Q)to consume
^[g]So that they have no lofty home.
¹⁵ But God will ^(R)redeem my soul from the ^[h]power of ^[i]Sheol,
For ^(S)He will receive me. Selah
