Wisdom’s Banquet
9 Wisdom has built her house;
she has hewn her seven pillars.
2 She has slaughtered her slaughtering, mixed her wine,
and also set her table.
3 She has sent her servant girls,[a] she calls
upon the wings of the high places of town,
4 “Whoever is simple, let him turn here.”
As for the one who lacks sense,[b] she says to him,
5 “Come, eat with my bread;
drink with the wine I have mixed.
6 Lay aside simplicity and live;
walk in the way of understanding.”
7 He who corrects a scoffer gains abuse for himself,
and he who rebukes the wicked gets hurt.[c]
8 Do not rebuke a scoffer, lest he hate you;
rebuke the wise and he will love you.
9 Give to a wise one and he will become more wise;
teach[d] a righteous one and he will increase learning.
Foolishness’ Banquet
10 The start of wisdom is fear of Yahweh,
and knowledge of the Holy One,[e] insight.
11 For by me your days shall increase,
and years of life shall multiply for you.
12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it.
13 A woman of foolishness is loud,
simple, and does not know it.[f]
14 She sits at the door of her house,
upon a throne at the high places of town,
15 in order to call to those who pass by the road,
those who go straight on their way:
16 “Whoever is simple, may he turn here!”
As for he who lacks sense,[g] she says to him,
17 “Stolen waters are sweet,
and bread of secrecy is pleasant.”
18 But he does not know that the dead[h] are there,
in the depths of Sheol[i] are her guests.

9 Sự khôn ngoan xây dựng nhà mình;
Chạm trổ bảy cột trụ;
2 Người làm thịt thú vật;
Pha rượu nho và dọn tiệc mình.
3 Người sai những tớ gái mình đi;
Từ nơi đỉnh cao nhất của thành nàng kêu gọi:
4 “Ai là người dại dột, hãy trở lại đây”;
Nàng nói với người thiếu trí hiểu:
5 “Hãy đến ăn bánh của ta
Và uống rượu ta pha;
6 Hãy từ bỏ sự dại dột và sẽ được sống;
Hãy đi theo con đường sáng suốt.”
7 Ai sửa sai người nhạo báng chuốc lấy sỉ nhục;
Ai quở trách người gian ác sẽ bị tổn thương.
8 Đừng quở trách người nhạo báng, nó sẽ ghét con;
Trách người khôn ngoan, người sẽ thương con.
9 Hãy giáo huấn người khôn ngoan thì người sẽ khôn ngoan hơn;
Hãy dạy dỗ người công chính thì kiến thức của người sẽ gia tăng.
10 Kính sợ CHÚA là khởi đầu sự khôn ngoan;
Hiểu biết Đấng Thánh là sự sáng suốt.
11 Vì nhờ ta các ngày của con sẽ được nhiều thêm,
Các năm của đời con sẽ được gia tăng.
12 Nếu con khôn ngoan, chính con sẽ được lợi ích;[a]
Nếu con nhạo báng, chính con phải chịu hậu quả.[b]
13 Người đàn bà ngu dại hay to tiếng,
Ngây ngô và không biết gì.
14 Nàng ngồi trước cửa nhà;
Ở nơi cao của thành;
15 Để kêu gọi những người qua lại trên đường,
Là những người đi theo đường mình;
16 “Ai là người dại dột, hãy trở lại đây”;
Nàng cũng nói với người thiếu trí hiểu:
17 “Nước ăn cắp thì ngọt;
Bánh ăn vụng thì ngon.”
18 Nhưng người không biết rằng đó là nơi chết chóc,
Và các khách của nàng đều ở nơi vực sâu của Âm Phủ.

Invitations of Wisdom and Folly
9 Wisdom has built(A) her house;
she has set up[a] its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;(B)
she has also set her table.(C)
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls(D)
from the highest point of the city,(E)
4 “Let all who are simple(F) come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(G) she says,
5 “Come,(H) eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.(I)
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;(J)
walk in the way of insight.”(K)
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.(L)
8 Do not rebuke mockers(M) or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.(N)
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.(O)
10 The fear of the Lord(P) is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One(Q) is understanding.(R)
11 For through wisdom[b] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.(S)
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
13 Folly is an unruly woman;(T)
she is simple and knows nothing.(U)
14 She sits at the door of her house,
on a seat at the highest point of the city,(V)
15 calling out(W) to those who pass by,
who go straight on their way,
16 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense(X) she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is delicious!(Y)”
18 But little do they know that the dead are there,
that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.(Z)
