Wisdom’s Feast

Wisdom has built her house;
    she has hewn her seven pillars.(A)
She has slaughtered her animals; she has mixed her wine;
    she has also set her table.(B)
She has sent out her female servants; she calls
    from the highest places in the town,(C)
“You who are simple, turn in here!”
    To those without sense she says,(D)
“Come, eat of my bread
    and drink of the wine I have mixed.(E)
Lay aside immaturity and live,
    and walk in the way of insight.”(F)

Psalm 147

Praise for God’s Care for Jerusalem

Praise the Lord!
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
    for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting.(A)
The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
    he gathers the outcasts of Israel.(B)
He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.(C)
He determines the number of the stars;
    he gives to all of them their names.(D)
Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
    his understanding is beyond measure.(E)
The Lord lifts up the downtrodden;
    he casts the wicked to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
    make melody to our God on the lyre.
He covers the heavens with clouds,
    prepares rain for the earth,
    makes grass grow on the hills.(F)
He gives to the animals their food
    and to the young ravens when they cry.(G)
10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse
    nor his pleasure in the speed of a runner,[a](H)
11 but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
    in those who hope in his steadfast love.

12 Extol the Lord, O Jerusalem!
    Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For he strengthens the bars of your gates;
    he blesses your children within you.
14 He grants peace[b] within your borders;
    he fills you with the finest of wheat.(I)
15 He sends out his command to the earth;
    his word runs swiftly.(J)
16 He gives snow like wool;
    he scatters frost like ashes.(K)
17 He hurls down hail like crumbs—
    who can stand before his cold?
18 He sends out his word and melts them;
    he makes his wind blow, and the waters flow.(L)
19 He declares his word to Jacob,
    his statutes and ordinances to Israel.(M)
20 He has not dealt thus with any other nation;
    they do not know his ordinances.
Praise the Lord!(N)

Renounce Pagan Ways

But sexual immorality and impurity of any kind or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among saints.(A) Entirely out of place is obscene, silly, and vulgar talk; but instead, let there be thanksgiving. Be sure of this, that no sexually immoral or impure person or one who is greedy (that is, an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.(B)

Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes on those who are disobedient.[a](C) Therefore do not be associated with them, for once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light,(D) for the fruit of the light[b] is found in all that is good and right and true. 10 Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness; rather, expose them.(E) 12 For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly, 13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

“Sleeper, awake!
    Rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”(F)

53 So Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.(A) 54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day,(B) 55 for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me and I in them.(C) 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which the ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.” 59 He said these things while he was teaching in a synagogue at Capernaum.
