    even when he is old he will not depart from it.

¹⁵ Folly is bound up in the heart of a child,
    but ^(A)the rod of discipline drives it far from him.

¹³ Do not withhold ^(A)discipline from a child;
    ^(B)if you strike him with a rod, he will not die.
¹⁴ If you strike him with the rod,
    you will ^(C)save his soul from Sheol.

^15 (A)The rod and reproof give wisdom,
    but a child left to himself ^(B)brings shame to his mother.
