²⁶For a prostitute’s fee is only a loaf of bread,^[a]
but an adulteress^[b] goes after a precious life.^(A)

²⁶For a prostitute will bring you to poverty,^[a]
but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life.

²⁰This is the way of an adulteress:
she eats and wipes her mouth
and says, “I’ve done nothing wrong.”^(A)

²⁰An adulterous woman consumes a man,
then wipes her mouth and says, “What’s wrong with that?”
