¹⁶ There are six things which Yahweh hates,
Even seven which are an abomination ^[a]to Him:

¹⁹ A ^(A)false witness who breathes out lies,
And one who ^[a](B)spreads strife among brothers.

⁹ With his ^(A)mouth the godless man corrupts his neighbor,
But through knowledge the ^(B)righteous will be rescued.

¹² He who despises his neighbor lacks a heart of wisdom,
But a man of discernment keeps silent.
¹³ He ^(A)who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets,
But he who is faithful in spirit ^(B)conceals a matter.

²⁷ A ^(A)vile man digs up evil,
And the words on his lips are like ^(B)scorching fire.
²⁸ A perverse man spreads strife,
And a whisperer separates close companions.

⁴ An ^(A)evildoer gives heed to lips of wickedness;
^[a]A liar gives ear to a destructive tongue.

⁹ He who ^(A)covers a transgression seeks love,
But he who repeats a matter ^(B)separates close companions.

⁸ The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels,
And they go down into the ^[a]innermost parts of the stomach.
