¹⁶ There are six things which Yahweh hates,
Even seven which are an abomination ^[a]to Him:
^17 (A)Haughty eyes, a ^(B)lying tongue,
And hands that ^(C)shed innocent blood,
¹⁸ A heart that devises ^(D)wicked thoughts,
^(E)Feet that hasten to run to evil,
¹⁹ A ^(F)false witness who breathes out lies,
And one who ^[b](G)spreads strife among brothers.

⁹ He who ^(A)covers a transgression seeks love,
But he who repeats a matter ^(B)separates close companions.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like letting out water,
So ^(A)abandon the dispute before it breaks out.

¹⁹ He who ^(A)loves transgression loves quarreling;
He who ^(B)makes his doorway high seeks destruction.

18 He who separates himself seeks his own desire,
He ^(A)breaks out in dispute against all sound wisdom.

¹⁹ A brother offended is harder to win over than a strong city,
And contentions are like the bars of a citadel.

¹¹ A ^(A)fool ^[a]lets out all of his spirit,
But a ^(B)wise man holds it back.

²² An ^(A)angry man stirs up strife,
And a hot-tempered man abounds in transgression.

³² If you have been wickedly foolish in lifting yourself up,
Or if you have schemed evil, ^(A)put your hand on your mouth.
³³ For pressing milk brings forth butter,
And pressing the nose brings forth blood;
And pressing ^(B)anger brings forth strife.
