Ang Salita ng Dios (Tagalog Contemporary Bible)
Ang mga Kawikaan ni Haring Lemuel
31 Ito ang mga kawikaan ni Haring Lemuel na taga-Masa. Ito ang mga itinuro sa kanya ng kanyang ina:
2 Anak, ipinanganak ka bilang sagot sa aking mga panalangin.
3 Huwag mong sasayangin ang iyong lakas at pera sa mga babae, sapagkat sila ang dahilan kung bakit napapahamak ang mga hari.
4 Lemuel, hindi dapat uminom ng alak ang isang hari. Ang mga namumuno ay hindi dapat maghangad ng inumin na nakalalasing.
5 Sapagkat kapag nalasing na sila, kadalasan ay nakakalimutan na nila ang kanilang tungkulin, at hindi nila nabibigyan ng katarungan ang mga nasa kagipitan.
6-7 Hayaan mong mag-inom ang mga taong nawalan na ng pag-asa[a] at naghihirap ang kalooban, upang makalimutan nila ang kanilang mga kasawian at kahirapan.
8 Ipagtanggol mo ang karapatan ng mga taong kahabag-habag, na hindi maipagtanggol ang kanilang mga sarili.
9 Humatol ka ng walang kinikilingan, at ipagtanggol ang karapatan ng mga mahihirap at nangangailangan.
Ang Mabuting Asawa
10 Mahirap hanapin ang mabuting asawa. Higit pa sa mamahaling alahas ang kanyang halaga.
11 Lubos ang tiwala sa kanya ng kanyang asawa, at wala na itong mahihiling pa sa kanya.
12 Kabutihan at hindi kasamaan ang ginagawa niya sa kanyang asawa habang siya ay nabubuhay.
13 Masigasig siyang humahabi ng mga telang linen at lana.
14 Tulad siya ng barko ng mga mangangalakal; nagdadala siya ng mga pagkain kahit galing pa siya sa malayong lugar.
15 Maaga siyang gumigising upang ipaghanda ng pagkain ang kanyang pamilya, at upang sabihan ang mga babaeng katulong ng mga dapat nilang gawin.
16 Marunong siyang pumili ng lupa na kanyang bibilhin. At mula sa kanyang sariling ipon, pinapataniman niya ito ng ubas.
17 Malakas, masipag at mabilis siyang gumawa.
18 Magaling siyang magnegosyo, at matiyagang nagtatrabaho hanggang gabi.
19 Siya rin ang gumagawa ng mga tela upang gawing damit.
20 Matulungin siya sa mahihirap at mga nangangailangan.
21 Hindi siya nag-aalala, dumating man ang taglamig, dahil may makakapal siyang tela para sa kanyang pamilya.
22 Siya na rin ang gumagawa ng mga kobre-kama, at ang kanyang mga damit ay mamahalin at magaganda.
23 Kilala ang asawa niya bilang isa sa mga tagapamahala ng bayan.
24 Gumagawa rin siya ng damit at sinturon, at ipinagbibili sa mga mangangalakal.
25 Malakas at iginagalang siya, at hindi siya nangangamba para sa kinabukasan.
26 Nagsasalita siya nang may karunungan, at nagtuturo nang may kabutihan.
27 Masipag siya, at inaalagaang mabuti ang kanyang pamilya.
28 Pinupuri siya ng kanyang mga anak, at pinupuri rin ng kanyang kabiyak na nagsasabi, 29 “Maraming babae na mabuting asawa, ngunit ikaw ang pinakamabuti sa kanilang lahat.”
30 Ang pagiging kaakit-akit ay makapandaraya, at ang kagandahan ay kumukupas. Pero ang babaeng may takot sa Panginoon ay dapat purihin.
31 Dapat siyang gantimpalaan sa kanyang ginawang kabutihan at parangalan sa karamihan.

The Words of King Lemuel’s Mother
31 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him:
2 What, my son?
And what, son of my womb?
And what, (A)son of my vows?
3 (B)Do not give your strength to women,
Nor your ways (C)to that which destroys kings.
4 (D)It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
It is not for kings to drink wine,
Nor for princes intoxicating drink;
5 (E)Lest they drink and forget the law,
And pervert the justice of all [a]the afflicted.
6 (F)Give strong drink to him who is perishing,
And wine to those who are bitter of heart.
7 Let him drink and forget his poverty,
And remember his misery no more.
8 (G)Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are [b]appointed to die.
9 Open your mouth, (H)judge righteously,
And (I)plead the cause of the poor and needy.
The Virtuous Wife
10 (J)Who[c] can find a [d]virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar.
15 (K)She also rises while it is yet night,
And (L)provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
From [e]her profits she plants a vineyard.
17 She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.
19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.
20 (M)She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
22 She makes tapestry for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 (N)Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
25 Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.

The Words of King Lemuel
31 The words of King Lemuel. An oracle that his mother taught him:
2 What are you doing, my son?[a] What are you doing, (A)son of my womb?
What are you doing, (B)son of my vows?
3 Do (C)not give your strength to women,
your ways to those (D)who destroy kings.
4 (E)It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
it is not for kings (F)to drink wine,
or for rulers to take (G)strong drink,
5 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed
and (H)pervert the rights of all the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink to the one who (I)is perishing,
and wine to (J)those in bitter distress;[b]
7 (K)let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.
8 (L)Open your mouth for the mute,
for the rights of all who are destitute.[c]
9 Open your mouth, (M)judge righteously,
(N)defend the rights of (O)the poor and needy.
The Woman Who Fears the Lord
10 [d] (P)An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than (Q)jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She (R)seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
15 She (S)rises while it is yet night
and (T)provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
17 She (U)dresses herself[e] with strength
and makes her arms strong.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.

2 Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb!
Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!(B)
3 Do not spend your strength[a] on women,
your vigor on those who ruin kings.(C)
4 It is not for kings, Lemuel—
it is not for kings to drink wine,(D)
not for rulers to crave beer,
5 lest they drink(E) and forget what has been decreed,(F)
and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
6 Let beer be for those who are perishing,
wine(G) for those who are in anguish!
7 Let them drink(H) and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more.
8 Speak(I) up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
9 Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.(J)
Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character
10 [b]A wife of noble character(K) who can find?(L)
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband(M) has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.(N)
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.(O)
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.(P)
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders(Q) of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.(R)
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;

31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
