⁵ Trust the Lord with all your heart,
    and don’t ·depend [rely] on your own understanding.
⁶ ·Remember the Lord [^LKnow him] ·in all you do [^Lon all your paths],
    and he will ·give you success [^Lkeep your roads straight].

⁷ Don’t ·depend on your own wisdom [^Lbe wise in your own eyes].
    ·Respect [Fear; Hold in awe] the Lord and ·refuse to do wrong [^Lturn away from evil].
⁸ Then your body will be healthy,
    and your bones will be ·strong [refreshed].

¹² ·Some people think they are doing right [^LThere is a path that seems straight to a person],
but in the end it ·leads [^Lis the path] to death.

³ ·Depend on the Lord in whatever you do [Commit your acts/deeds to the Lord],
and your plans will ·succeed [be established].

²⁰ Whoever ·listens to what is taught [has insight] will ·succeed [prosper],
and whoever trusts the Lord will be ·happy [blessed].

² Fools do not ·want to understand anything [^Ldelight in understanding].
They only want to ·tell others what they think [^Lreveal/disclose their heart].

⁴ ·Spoken words [^LThe words of a person’s mouth] can be like deep water,
·but [or and] the fountain of wisdom is like a flowing stream.

¹⁰ The name of the Lord is like a strong tower;
·those who do right [the righteous] can run to him for ·safety [refuge].

³ People’s own foolishness ·ruins their lives [^Lfrustrates their path],
but in their ·minds [^Lhearts] they ·blame [rage at] the Lord.

²⁴ The Lord decides ·what a person will do [^Lthe steps of a person];
·no one understands what his life is all about [^Lhow can people understand their path?].

²² A wise person ·can defeat [^Lwent up against] a city full of warriors
and tear down the defenses they trust in [Eccl. 9:13–16].
