⁶ But ^(A)He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “^(B)God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” ^7 (C)Submit therefore to God. But ^[a](D)resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ^8 (E)Come close to God and He will come close to you. ^(F)Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and ^(G)purify your hearts, you ^[b](H)double-minded. ^9 (I)Be miserable, and mourn, and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into gloom. ^10 (J)Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

¹² Then the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said to him, “I have heard your prayer and ^(A)have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. ^13 (B)If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people, ^14 (C)and My people ^[a]who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ^15 (D)Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the ^[b]prayer offered in this place. ¹⁶ For ^(E)now I have chosen and consecrated this house so that My name may be there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there ^[c]always.
