21 The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord;
he (A)turns it wherever he will.
2 (B)Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
but the Lord (C)weighs the heart.
3 (D)To do righteousness and justice
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
4 (E)Haughty eyes and a proud heart,
(F)the lamp[a] of the wicked, are sin.
5 The plans of (G)the diligent lead surely to abundance,
but everyone who is (H)hasty comes (I)only to poverty.
6 (J)The getting of treasures by a lying tongue
is a (K)fleeting (L)vapor and a (M)snare of death.[b]
7 The violence of the wicked will (N)sweep them away,
because they refuse to do what is just.
8 The way of the guilty (O)is crooked,
but the conduct of the pure is upright.
9 It is (P)better to live in a corner of the housetop
than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.
10 The soul of the wicked desires evil;
his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.
11 When (Q)a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise;
when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.
12 The Righteous One (R)observes the house of the wicked;
he throws the wicked down to ruin.
13 (S)Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor
will himself call out and not be answered.
14 (T)A gift in secret averts anger,
and a concealed bribe,[c] strong wrath.
15 When justice is done, it is a joy to the righteous
(U)but terror to evildoers.
16 One who wanders from the way of good sense
(V)will rest in the assembly of the dead.
17 Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man;
he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.
18 (W)The wicked is a (X)ransom for the righteous,
and the traitor for the upright.
19 It is (Y)better to live in a desert land
than with a quarrelsome and fretful woman.
20 (Z)Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling,
but a foolish man (AA)devours it.
21 Whoever (AB)pursues righteousness and kindness
will find (AC)life, righteousness, and honor.
22 (AD)A wise man scales the city of the mighty
and brings down the stronghold in which they trust.
23 (AE)Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue
(AF)keeps himself out of (AG)trouble.
24 (AH)“Scoffer” is the name of the arrogant, haughty man
who acts with arrogant pride.
25 The desire of (AI)the sluggard kills him,
for his hands refuse to labor.
26 All day long he craves and craves,
but the righteous (AJ)gives and does not hold back.
27 (AK)The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination;
how much more (AL)when he brings it with evil intent.
28 (AM)A false witness will perish,
but the word of a man who hears will endure.
29 A wicked man puts on a bold face,
but the upright (AN)gives thought to[d] his ways.
30 (AO)No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel
can avail against the Lord.
31 (AP)The horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but (AQ)the victory belongs to the Lord.

2 Mọi đường lối của một người đều ngay thẳng trước mắt mình,
Nhưng CHÚA xem xét tấm lòng.
3 Hành động công chính và công bình
Đẹp lòng CHÚA hơn là lễ vật sinh tế.
4 Mắt tự cao, lòng kiêu ngạo,
Ngọn đèn của kẻ gian ác đều là tội lỗi.
5 Những ý tưởng của người cần mẫn chắc chắn sẽ dẫn đến dư dật,
Nhưng mọi kẻ hấp tấp sẽ đến sự thiếu thốn.
6 Của cải kiếm được nhờ lưỡi dối trá,
Như hơi nước thoáng qua của kẻ tìm kiếm sự chết.[a]
7 Bạo lực của kẻ ác sẽ lôi cuốn chúng nó đi,
Vì chúng từ khước làm điều công bình.
8 Con đường của kẻ phạm tội là cong vẹo,
Nhưng hành động của người trong sạch thì ngay thẳng.
9 Thà ở nơi góc mái nhà,
Còn hơn là sống chung nhà với một người đàn bà hay cãi cọ.
10 Linh hồn kẻ ác mong ước điều ác;
Người láng giềng nó không được ơn trước mắt nó.
11 Khi kẻ nhạo báng bị trừng phạt, người đơn sơ sẽ nên khôn ngoan;
Khi người khôn ngoan được giáo huấn, người sẽ nhận được tri thức.
12 Đấng Công Chính quan sát nhà kẻ ác;
Ngài ném kẻ ác vào tai họa.
13 Người nào bịt tai không nghe tiếng kêu la của kẻ nghèo khổ,
Khi người ấy kêu van cũng sẽ không được đáp lời.
14 Quà biếu kín đáo sẽ làm nguôi cơn thịnh nộ;
Của hối lộ bỏ vào lòng sẽ làm nguôi cơn giận.
15 Hành động công bình là niềm vui cho người công chính,
Nhưng là sự kinh hoàng cho kẻ làm tội ác.
16 Người nào đi lạc khỏi con đường khôn ngoan
Sẽ an nghỉ trong hội người chết.
17 Kẻ ham vui thú sẽ nghèo khổ;
Người mê rượu và dầu thơm sẽ không thể giàu có.
18 Kẻ gian ác là tiền chuộc mạng cho người công chính;
Kẻ xảo trá sẽ thế chỗ cho người ngay thẳng.
19 Thà sống trong sa mạc,
Hơn là sống với người đàn bà hay cãi cọ và than phiền.
20 Châu báu và dầu ở trong nhà người khôn ngoan;
Nhưng kẻ ngu dại ăn tiêu hết.
21 Người nào theo đuổi sự công chính và tình yêu thương,
Sẽ tìm thấy sự sống, công chính và vinh quang.
22 Người khôn ngoan tấn công thành trì kẻ mạnh,
Người đánh đổ đồn lũy mà họ tin cậy.
23 Người nào gìn giữ miệng lưỡi,
Gìn giữ linh hồn khỏi hoạn nạn.
24 Tên của kẻ nhạo báng là kiêu ngạo và tự cao;
Nó hành động láo xược và kiêu căng.
25 Dục vọng của kẻ lười biếng,
Sẽ giết chết nó vì tay nó từ chối làm việc.
26 Suốt ngày kẻ tham lam chỉ ham muốn;
Nhưng người công chính hay ban cho và không bủn xỉn.
27 Vật tế lễ của kẻ gian ác là vật gớm ghiếc;
Huống hồ khi chúng dâng với ác ý.
28 Kẻ làm chứng dối sẽ bị hủy diệt,
Nhưng người biết nghe sẽ được nói mãi mãi.
29 Kẻ ác mặt dày mày dạn,
Nhưng người ngay thẳng thiết lập[b] đường lối mình.
30 Không có sự khôn ngoan, sáng suốt,
Hay cố vấn nào thắng hơn CHÚA.

21 In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water
that he channels toward all who please him.(A)
2 A person may think their own ways are right,
but the Lord weighs the heart.(B)
3 To do what is right and just
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.(C)
4 Haughty eyes(D) and a proud heart—
the unplowed field of the wicked—produce sin.
5 The plans of the diligent lead to profit(E)
as surely as haste leads to poverty.
7 The violence of the wicked will drag them away,(G)
for they refuse to do what is right.
8 The way of the guilty is devious,(H)
but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9 Better to live on a corner of the roof
than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.(I)
10 The wicked crave evil;
their neighbors get no mercy from them.
11 When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom;
by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge.(J)
14 A gift given in secret soothes anger,
and a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies great wrath.(N)
15 When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous
but terror to evildoers.(O)
16 Whoever strays from the path of prudence
comes to rest in the company of the dead.(P)
17 Whoever loves pleasure will become poor;
whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich.(Q)
18 The wicked become a ransom(R) for the righteous,
and the unfaithful for the upright.
19 Better to live in a desert
than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife.(S)
20 The wise store up choice food and olive oil,
but fools gulp theirs down.
22 One who is wise can go up against the city of the mighty(V)
and pull down the stronghold in which they trust.
24 The proud and arrogant person(Y)—“Mocker” is his name—
behaves with insolent fury.
25 The craving of a sluggard will be the death of him,(Z)
because his hands refuse to work.
26 All day long he craves for more,
but the righteous(AA) give without sparing.(AB)
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable(AC)—
how much more so when brought with evil intent!(AD)
29 The wicked put up a bold front,
but the upright give thought to their ways.(AG)
31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but victory rests with the Lord.(AJ)

21 The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.
5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
8 The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.
9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
12 The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.
15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
20 There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
24 Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
26 He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.
