Names of God Bible
20 Wine makes people mock,
liquor makes them noisy,
and everyone under their influence is unwise.
2 The rage of a king is like the roar of a lion.
Whoever makes him angry forfeits his life.
3 Avoiding a quarrel is honorable.
After all, any stubborn fool can start a fight.
4 A lazy person does not plow in the fall.[a]
He looks for something in the harvest but finds nothing.
5 A motive in the human heart is like deep water,
and a person who has understanding draws it out.
6 Many people declare themselves loyal,
but who can find someone who is really trustworthy?
7 A righteous person lives on the basis of his integrity.
Blessed are his children after he is gone.
8 A king who sits on his throne to judge sifts out every evil with his eyes.
9 Who can say,
“I’ve made my heart pure.
I’m cleansed from my sin”?
10 A double standard of weights and measures—
both are disgusting to Yahweh.
11 Even a child makes himself known by his actions,
whether his deeds are pure or right.
12 The ear that hears,
the eye that sees—
Yahweh made them both.
13 Do not love sleep or you will end up poor.
Keep your eyes open, and you will have plenty to eat.
14 “Bad! Bad!” says the buyer.
Then, as he goes away, he brags about his bargain.
15 There are gold and plenty of jewels,
but the lips of knowledge are precious gems.
16 Hold on to the garment of one who guarantees a stranger’s loan,
and hold responsible the person who makes a loan on behalf of a foreigner.
17 Food gained dishonestly tastes sweet to a person,
but afterwards his mouth will be filled with gravel.
18 Plans are confirmed by getting advice,
and with guidance one wages war.
19 Whoever goes around as a gossip tells secrets.
Do not associate with a person whose mouth is always open.
20 The lamp of the person who curses his father and mother
will be snuffed out in total darkness.[b]
21 An inheritance quickly obtained in the beginning
will never be blessed in the end.
22 Do not say, “I’ll get even with you!”
Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you.
23 A double standard of weights is disgusting to Yahweh,
and dishonest scales are no good.
24 Yahweh is the one who directs a person’s steps.
How then can anyone understand his own way?
25 It is a trap for a person to say impulsively, “This is a holy offering!”
and later to have second thoughts about those vows.
26 A wise king scatters the wicked
and then runs them over.
27 A person’s soul is Yahweh’s lamp.
It searches his entire innermost being.
28 Mercy and truth protect a king,
and with mercy he maintains his throne.
29 While the glory of young men is their strength,
the splendor of older people is their silver hair.
30 Brutal beatings cleanse away wickedness.
Such beatings cleanse the innermost being.

20 (A)Wine is a mocker, (B)strong drink a brawler,
and whoever (C)is led astray by it is not wise.[a]
2 The terror of a king is like (D)the growling of a lion;
whoever provokes him to anger (E)forfeits his life.
3 It is an honor for a man to (F)keep aloof from strife,
but every fool will be quarreling.
4 (G)The sluggard does not plow in the autumn;
(H)he will seek at harvest and have nothing.
5 The purpose in a man's heart is like (I)deep water,
but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Many a man (J)proclaims his own steadfast love,
but (K)a faithful man who can find?
7 The righteous who (L)walks in his integrity—
(M)blessed are his children after him!
8 (N)A king who sits on the throne of judgment
(O)winnows all evil with his eyes.
9 (P)Who can say, “I have made my heart pure;
I am clean from my sin”?
10 (Q)Unequal[b] weights and unequal measures
are both alike an abomination to the Lord.
11 Even a child (R)makes himself known by his acts,
by whether his conduct is pure and upright.[c]
12 (S)The hearing ear and the seeing eye,
(T)the Lord has made them both.
13 (U)Love not sleep, lest you (V)come to poverty;
open your eyes, and you will have (W)plenty of bread.
14 “Bad, bad,” says the buyer,
but when he goes away, then he boasts.
15 There is gold and abundance of (X)costly stones,
(Y)but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16 (Z)Take a man's garment when he has put up security for a stranger,
and (AA)hold it in pledge when he puts up security for foreigners.[d]
17 (AB)Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man,
but afterward his mouth will be full of (AC)gravel.
18 (AD)Plans are established by counsel;
by (AE)wise guidance (AF)wage war.
19 Whoever (AG)goes about slandering reveals secrets;
therefore do not associate with (AH)a simple babbler.[e]
20 (AI)If one curses his father or his mother,
(AJ)his lamp will be put out in utter darkness.
21 (AK)An inheritance gained hastily in the beginning
will not be blessed in the end.
22 Do not say, (AL)“I will repay evil”;
(AM)wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you.
23 (AN)Unequal weights are an abomination to the Lord,
and (AO)false scales are not good.
24 A man's (AP)steps are from the Lord;
how then can man understand his way?
25 It is a snare to say rashly, “It is holy,”
and to reflect only (AQ)after making vows.
26 A wise king (AR)winnows the wicked
and drives (AS)the wheel over them.
27 (AT)The spirit[f] of man is the lamp of the Lord,
(AU)searching all (AV)his innermost parts.
28 (AW)Steadfast love and faithfulness preserve the king,
and by steadfast love his (AX)throne is upheld.
29 The glory of young men is their strength,
but (AY)the splendor of old men is their gray hair.
30 (AZ)Blows that wound cleanse away evil;
strokes make clean (BA)the innermost parts.

6 Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find?(L)
10 Differing weights and differing measures—
the Lord detests them both.(S)
11 Even small children are known by their actions,
so is their conduct really pure(T) and upright?
12 Ears that hear and eyes that see—
the Lord has made them both.(U)
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor;(V)
stay awake and you will have food to spare.
14 “It’s no good, it’s no good!” says the buyer—
then goes off and boasts about the purchase.
15 Gold there is, and rubies in abundance,
but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel.
16 Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;

18 Plans are established by seeking advice;
so if you wage war, obtain guidance.(AA)

so avoid anyone who talks too much.

will not be blessed at the end.

24 A person’s steps are directed(AH) by the Lord.(AI)
How then can anyone understand their own way?(AJ)
25 It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows.(AK)
26 A wise king winnows out the wicked;

4 A cause du froid, le paresseux ne laboure pas; A la moisson, il voudrait récolter, mais il n'y a rien.
5 Les desseins dans le coeur de l'homme sont des eaux profondes, Mais l'homme intelligent sait y puiser.
6 Beaucoup de gens proclament leur bonté; Mais un homme fidèle, qui le trouvera?
7 Le juste marche dans son intégrité; Heureux ses enfants après lui!
8 Le roi assis sur le trône de la justice Dissipe tout mal par son regard.
9 Qui dira: J'ai purifié mon coeur, Je suis net de mon péché?
10 Deux sortes de poids, deux sortes d'épha, Sont l'un et l'autre en abomination à l'Éternel.
11 L'enfant laisse déjà voir par ses actions Si sa conduite sera pure et droite.
12 L'oreille qui entend, et l'oeil qui voit, C'est l'Éternel qui les a faits l'un et l'autre.
13 N'aime pas le sommeil, de peur que tu ne deviennes pauvre; Ouvre les yeux, tu seras rassasié de pain.
14 Mauvais! mauvais! dit l'acheteur; Et en s'en allant, il se félicite.
15 Il y a de l'or et beaucoup de perles; Mais les lèvres savantes sont un objet précieux.
16 Prends son vêtement, car il a cautionné autrui; Exige de lui des gages, à cause des étrangers.
17 Le pain du mensonge est doux à l'homme, Et plus tard sa bouche est remplie de gravier.
18 Les projets s'affermissent par le conseil; Fais la guerre avec prudence.
19 Celui qui répand la calomnie dévoile les secrets; Ne te mêle pas avec celui qui ouvre ses lèvres.
20 Si quelqu'un maudit son père et sa mère, Sa lampe s'éteindra au milieu des ténèbres.
21 Un héritage promptement acquis dès l'origine Ne sera pas béni quand viendra la fin.
22 Ne dis pas: Je rendrai le mal. Espère en l'Éternel, et il te délivrera.
23 L'Éternel a en horreur deux sortes de poids, Et la balance fausse n'est pas une chose bonne.
24 C'est l'Éternel qui dirige les pas de l'homme, Mais l'homme peut-il comprendre sa voie?
25 C'est un piège pour l'homme que de prendre à la légère un engagement sacré, Et de ne réfléchir qu'après avoir fait un voeu.
26 Un roi sage dissipe les méchants, Et fait passer sur eux la roue.
27 Le souffle de l'homme est une lampe de l'Éternel; Il pénètre jusqu'au fond des entrailles.
28 La bonté et la fidélité gardent le roi, Et il soutient son trône par la bonté.
29 La force est la gloire des jeunes gens, Et les cheveux blancs sont l'ornement des vieillards.
30 Les plaies d'une blessure sont un remède pour le méchant; De même les coups qui pénètrent jusqu'au fond des entrailles.
