But [when these people set a trap for others] they lie in wait for their own blood;
They set an ambush for their own lives [and rush to their destruction].

So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain;
Greed takes away the lives of its possessors.^(A)

Better is a little with the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the Lord
Than great treasure and trouble with it.^(A)

He who profits unlawfully brings suffering to his own house,
But he who hates bribes [and does not receive nor pay them] will live.^(A)

He craves all the day long [and does no work],
But the righteous [willingly] gives and does not withhold [what he has].^(A)

22 A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches;
And favor is better than silver and gold.

Sheol (the place of the dead) and Abaddon (the underworld) are never satisfied;
Nor are the eyes of man ever satisfied.^(A)

Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
Than he who is crooked and two-faced though he is rich.^(A)

He who increases his wealth by interest and usury (excessive interest)
Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor.^(A)

He who has an evil and envious eye hurries to be rich
And does not know that poverty will come upon him.^(A)
