⁵A false witness will not go unpunished,
nor will a liar escape.

⁵A witness to lies will not go unpunished;
the teller of falsehoods will not escape.

⁹A false witness will not go unpunished,
and a liar will be destroyed.

⁹A witness to lies will not go unpunished;
the teller of falsehoods will perish.

²²Loyalty makes a person attractive.
It is better to be poor than dishonest.

²²Human beings long for grace,
and it’s better to be poor than a man of deceit.

²⁸A corrupt witness makes a mockery of justice;
the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.

²⁸A corrupt witness^[a] mocks justice,
and the wicked person feeds on iniquity.
