¹⁸^(A)A man devoid of ^[a]understanding ^[b]shakes hands in a pledge,
And becomes ^[c]surety for his friend.

¹⁸A person who lacks sense^[a] pledges;^[b]
he becomes security before his neighbor.

²³A wicked man accepts a bribe ^[a]behind the back
To pervert the ways of justice.

²³The wicked will accept a bribe from the lap,
in order to pervert the ways of justice.
