⁷Fine speech^[a] is not becoming a fool,
still less^[b] is false speech^[c] for a ruler.

Proverbs 17:7

International Standard Version

⁷Appropriate speech is inconsistent with the fool;
how much more are deceitful statements^[a] with a prince!

²⁶Also, imposing a fine on the righteous is not good,
nor to flog nobles for uprightness.

²⁶Furthermore, it isn’t good to fine the righteous,
or to beat an official because of his uprightness.
