15 A gentle answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.

15 A gentle response diverts anger,
but a harsh statement incites fury.

²⁷He who spares his words has knowledge.
He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.

²⁷Whoever controls what he says is knowledgeable;
anyone who has a calm spirit is a man of understanding.

¹⁵By patience a ruler is persuaded.
A soft tongue breaks the bone.

¹⁵Through patience a ruler may be persuaded;
