International Children’s Bible
15 A gentle answer will calm a person’s anger.
But an unkind answer will cause more anger.
2 Wise people use knowledge when they speak.
But fools speak only foolishness.
3 The Lord’s eyes see everything that happens.
He watches both evil and good people.
4 As a tree gives us fruit, healing words give us life.
But evil words crush the spirit.
5 A foolish person rejects his father’s correction.
But anyone who accepts correction is wise.
6 There is much wealth in the houses of good people.
But evil people are paid only with trouble.
7 With their words wise people spread knowledge.
But there is no knowledge in the thoughts of the foolish.
8 The Lord hates the sacrifice that the wicked person offers.
But he is pleased with an honest person’s prayer.
9 The Lord hates what evil people do.
But he loves those who do what is right.
10 The person who quits doing what is right will really be punished.
The one who hates to be corrected will die.
11 The Lord knows what is happening where the dead people are.
So he can surely know what living people are thinking.
12 A person who laughs at wisdom does not like to be corrected.
He will not ask advice from the wise.
13 Happiness makes a person smile.
But sadness breaks a person’s spirit.
14 Smart people want more knowledge.
But a foolish person just wants more foolishness.
15 Every day is hard for those who suffer.
But a happy heart makes it like a continual feast.
16 It is better to be poor and respect the Lord
than to be wealthy and have much trouble.
17 It is better to eat vegetables with those who love you
than to eat meat with those who hate you.
18 A person who quickly gets angry causes trouble.
But a person who controls his temper stops a quarrel.
19 A lazy person’s life is as difficult as walking through a patch of thorns.
But an honest person’s life is as easy as walking down a smooth highway.
20 A wise son makes his father happy.
But a foolish person hates his mother.
21 A man without wisdom enjoys being foolish.
But a man with understanding does what is right.
22 Plans fail without good advice.
But plans succeed when you get advice from many others.
23 People enjoy giving good answers!
Saying the right word at the right time is so pleasing!
24 A wise person does things that will make his life better.
He avoids whatever would cause his death.
25 The Lord will tear down the proud person’s house.
But he will protect the property of a widow.
26 The Lord hates evil thoughts.
But he is pleased with kind words.
27 A greedy person brings trouble to his family.
But the person who can’t be paid to do wrong will live.
28 Good people think before they answer.
But the wicked simply give evil answers.
29 The Lord does not listen to the wicked.
But he hears the prayers of those who do right.
30 Good news makes you feel better.
Your happiness will show in your eyes.
31 A wise person pays attention to correction
that will improve his life.
32 A person who refuses correction hates himself.
But a person who accepts correction gains understanding.
33 Respect for the Lord will teach you wisdom.
If you want to be honored, you must not be proud.

15 Een zachtmoedig antwoord sust de woede, maar een tactloze uitspraak roept de woede juist op.
2 Een verstandig mens weet zijn kennis goed te vertolken, maar de woorden van een zot zijn een bron van dwaasheid.
3 Gods ogen zien alles, al het kwade én al het goede.
4 Gezonde woorden zijn als een boom van leven, verkeerde woorden richten echter schade aan.
5 Een dwaas zal de lessen van zijn vader negeren, maar wie luistert naar de terechtwijzingen van zijn vader, toont zich verstandig.
6 Het huis van de rechtvaardige bergt vele schatten, maar de goddeloze doet zichzelf schade aan.
7 Verstandige mensen strooien kennis om zich heen, terwijl het hart van de dwaas een dwaalspoor kiest.
8 De Here verafschuwt het offer van de goddelozen, maar een oprecht gebed doet Hem goed.
9 De Here verafschuwt goddeloos gedrag, maar wie zich toelegt op oprechtheid, zal Hij liefhebben.
10 Onderwijs en berisping zijn onaangenaam voor wie de goede weg verlaat. Wie terechtwijzing haat, gaat de dood tegemoet.
11 De diepten van de hel zijn voor de Here als een open boek, dus kan Hij de harten van de mensen zeker peilen!
12 Een spotter houdt er niet van als hij bestraft wordt en mijdt daarom verstandige mensen.
13 Een vrolijk hart geeft een blij gezicht, maar een treurig hart knakt de geest.
14 Een verstandig hart verlangt naar kennis, maar de dwaas put uit een bron van dwaasheid.
15 Een bedrukt mens lijdt een triest leven, maar een vrolijk hart geeft levenslust.
16 Weinig bezit met een eerbiedig ontzag voor de Here is beter dan veel rijkdom en een onrustig geweten.
17 Een eenvoudig maal in een liefdevolle sfeer is beter dan een overvloedig diner met een liefdeloze sfeer.
18 Een lichtgeraakt mens veroorzaakt ruzie, een geduldig mens zorgt voor verzoening.
19 Een luiaard is vol dorens en distels, maar voor een oprechte wordt de weg gebaand.
20 Een verstandige zoon geeft zijn vader veel vreugde, maar een dwaas veracht zijn moeder.
21 Een onverstandig mens beleeft plezier aan zijn eigen dwaasheid, maar een verstandig mens zoekt de goede weg.
22 Zonder goede raad gaan plannen teniet, maar veel adviseurs doen plannen slagen.
23 Een passend antwoord maakt de spreker blij en wat is een woord goed op zijn tijd!
24 De levensweg leidt de verstandige naar boven, hij blijft buiten bereik van het dodenrijk beneden.
25 De Here richt een hoogmoedige ten gronde, maar voor de weduwe springt Hij in de bres.
26 De Here verafschuwt de gedachten van een boosdoener, maar woorden uit liefde gesproken zijn zuiver.
27 Een oneerlijk mens brengt onrust in zijn eigen huis, maar wie smeergeld haat, zal leven.
28 Een rechtvaardige denkt voordat hij spreekt, een goddeloze spuit volop vuile taal.
29 De Here houdt goddelozen op een afstand, maar het gebed van rechtvaardigen zal Hij verhoren.
30 Vriendelijke ogen maken het hart blij en een goed bericht schenkt nieuwe moed.
31 Wie luistert naar opbouwende terechtwijzingen, bevindt zich in wijs gezelschap.
32 Wie de berisping verwerpt, doet zich zelf tekort, maar wie luistert, krijgt verstand en wijsheid.
33 Eerbiedig ontzag voor de Here leidt tot wijsheid en nederigheid leidt tot eerbetoon.

5 A fool spurns a parent’s discipline,
but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.(K)
6 The house of the righteous contains great treasure,(L)
but the income of the wicked brings ruin.(M)
7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge,(N)
but the hearts of fools are not upright.
10 Stern discipline awaits anyone who leaves the path;
the one who hates correction will die.(T)
12 Mockers resent correction,(W)
so they avoid the wise.
14 The discerning heart seeks knowledge,(Z)
but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched,
but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.(AA)
16 Better a little with the fear of the Lord
than great wealth with turmoil.(AB)
17 Better a small serving of vegetables with love
than a fattened calf with hatred.(AC)
19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns,(AF)
but the path of the upright is a highway.
20 A wise son brings joy to his father,(AG)
but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 Folly brings joy to one who has no sense,(AH)
but whoever has understanding keeps a straight course.
24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent
to keep them from going down to the realm of the dead.
25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud,(AN)
but he sets the widow’s boundary stones in place.(AO)
26 The Lord detests the thoughts(AP) of the wicked,(AQ)
but gracious words are pure(AR) in his sight.
27 The greedy bring ruin to their households,
but the one who hates bribes will live.(AS)
29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous.(AV)
30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.(AW)
31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction
will be at home among the wise.(AX)

4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.
11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!
24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

15 La suave respuesta aparta el furor(A),
mas la palabra hiriente hace subir la ira(B).
2 La lengua del sabio hace grato[a] el conocimiento(C),
pero la boca de los necios habla[b] necedades(D).
3 En todo lugar están los ojos del Señor(E),
observando a los malos y a los buenos.
4 La lengua apacible[c] es árbol de vida,
mas la perversidad en ella quebranta el[d] espíritu.
5 El necio rechaza[e] la disciplina[f] de su padre,
mas el que acepta la reprensión es prudente.
6 En la casa del justo hay mucha riqueza(F),
pero en las ganancias del impío hay turbación.
7 Los labios de los sabios esparcen conocimiento,
pero no así el corazón de los necios.
8 El sacrificio de los impíos es abominación al Señor(G),
mas la oración de los rectos es su deleite(H).
9 Abominación al Señor es el camino del impío,
y Él ama al que sigue la justicia(I).
10 La disciplina severa es para el que abandona el camino;
el que aborrece la reprensión morirá.
11 El Seol[g] y el Abadón[h] están delante del Señor(J),
¡cuánto más los corazones de los hombres[i](K)!
12 El escarnecedor no ama al que lo reprende(L),
ni se allegará a los sabios.
13 El corazón gozoso(M) alegra el[j] rostro,
pero en la tristeza del corazón(N) se quebranta el espíritu(O).
14 El corazón inteligente busca conocimiento(P),
mas la boca de los necios se alimenta de necedades.
15 Todos los días del afligido son malos,
pero el de corazón alegre[k] tiene un banquete continuo.
16 Mejor es lo poco con el temor[l] del Señor,
que gran tesoro y turbación con él(Q).
17 Mejor es un plato[m] de legumbres[n] donde hay amor(R),
que buey engordado(S) y odio con él.
18 El hombre irascible suscita riñas(T),
pero el lento para la ira(U) apacigua contiendas(V).
19 El camino del perezoso es como un seto de espinos,
mas la senda de los rectos es una calzada.
20 El hijo sabio alegra al padre(W),
pero el hombre necio desprecia a su madre(X).
21 La necedad es alegría para el insensato[o],
pero el hombre inteligente anda rectamente(Y).
22 Sin consulta, los planes se frustran,
pero con muchos consejeros, triunfan[p].
23 El hombre se alegra con la respuesta adecuada[q](Z),
y una palabra a tiempo, ¡cuán agradable es(AA)!
24 La senda de vida para el sabio(AB) es hacia arriba,
para que se aparte del Seol[r] que está abajo.

28 El corazón del justo medita cómo responder(AH),

29 El Señor está lejos de los impíos(AJ),
pero escucha la oración de los justos(AK).
30 La luz de los ojos alegra el corazón,
y las buenas noticias fortalecen[t] los huesos.
31 El oído que escucha las reprensiones de la vida,
morará entre los sabios.
32 El que tiene en poco la disciplina[u](AL) se desprecia a sí mismo(AM),
mas el que escucha las reprensiones adquiere entendimiento[v](AN).
33 El temor[w] del Señor es instrucción de sabiduría,
y antes de la gloria está la humildad.
