Proverbs 14

The Ways of Life and Death
14 The wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.
2 He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord,
(A)But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him.
3 In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride,
(B)But the lips of the wise will preserve them.
4 Where no oxen are, the [a]trough is clean;
But much increase comes by the strength of an ox.
6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it,
But (E)knowledge is easy to him who understands.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man,
When you do not perceive in him the lips of (F)knowledge.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way,
But the folly of fools is deceit.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness,
And a stranger does not share its joy.
11 (H)The house of the wicked will be overthrown,
But the tent of the upright will flourish.
13 Even in laughter the heart may sorrow,
And (L)the end of mirth may be grief.
14 The backslider in heart will be (M)filled with his own ways,
But a good man will be satisfied [c]from (N)above.
15 The simple believes every word,
But the prudent considers well his steps.
16 (O)A wise man fears and departs from evil,
But a fool rages and is self-confident.
17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly,
And a man of wicked intentions is hated.
18 The simple inherit folly,
But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 The evil will bow before the good,
And the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
20 (P)The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor,
But [d]the rich has many (Q)friends.
21 He who despises his neighbor sins;
(R)But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
22 Do they not go astray who devise evil?
But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.
23 In all labor there is profit,
But [e]idle chatter leads only to poverty.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches,
But the foolishness of fools is folly.
26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence,
And His children will have a place of refuge.
27 (T)The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
To turn one away from the snares of death.
28 In a multitude of people is a king’s honor,
But in the lack of people is the downfall of a prince.
31 (X)He who oppresses the poor reproaches (Y)his Maker,
But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
32 The wicked is banished in his wickedness,
But (Z)the righteous has a refuge in his death.
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding,
But (AA)what is in the heart of fools is made known.
35 (AC)The king’s favor is toward a wise servant,
But his wrath is against him who causes shame.

2 Quem anda na retidão respeita o SENHOR,
quem sai do seu caminho o despreza.
3 O arrogante recebe chicotadas por causa das suas palavras,
mas as palavras do sábio o protegem.
4 Quando não há bois a manjedoura pode estar vazia,
mas é com a força dos bois que há uma boa colheita.
5 A testemunha verdadeira não mente,
mas a testemunha falsa só fala mentiras.
6 O zombador procura a sabedoria mas não a encontra,
mas quem é inteligente aprende depressa.
7 Não seja amigo de quem não tem juízo,
pois ele não tem nada para ensinar.
8 A pessoa prudente é sábia porque pensa no que faz,
mas o tolo não tem juízo porque engana a si mesmo.
9 Os insensatos zombam daqueles que pagam multas
mas os justos procuram agradar a Deus.
10 Só o coração conhece as suas próprias amarguras,
e não compartilha a sua felicidade com estranhos.
11 A casa dos maus será destruída,
mas a tenda dos justos prosperará.
12 Há caminhos que parecem corretos ao homem,
mas na realidade levam para a morte.
13 Mesmo quando alguém sorri, o coração pode estar triste;
e no final a tristeza volta a aparecer.
14 Os que fazem o mal serão castigados,
mas os que fazem o bem serão recompensados.
15 A pessoa simples acredita em tudo o que lhe dizem,
mas o prudente pensa antes de dar qualquer passo.
16 O sábio é cauteloso e afasta-se do mal,
mas o insensato não quer saber e é arrogante.
17 Quem se irrita facilmente faz loucuras,
e quem é mau é desprezado.
18 As pessoas simples herdarão a insensatez,
mas os sábios serão recompensados com mais conhecimento.
19 Os maus terão que se submeter aos bons,
e os perversos aos justos.
20 O pobre não tem amigos nem vizinhos,
mas o rico tem muitos amigos.
21 Quem despreza o seu semelhante comete pecado,
mas feliz é quem tem compaixão dos pobres.
22 Os que só pensam em fazer o mal perderão o caminho,
mas os que fazem o bem encontrarão amor e lealdade.
23 Quem gosta de trabalhar terá lucro,
mas o muito falar só leva à pobreza.
24 A riqueza é a recompensa dos sábios,
e a estupidez é a recompensa de quem não tem juízo.
25 A testemunha que diz a verdade salva vidas,
mas a testemunha falsa espalha mentiras.
26 Quem respeita o SENHOR vive em segurança,
e os seus filhos também se sentem seguros.
27 Quem respeita o SENHOR dá vida a todos
e escapa da armadilha da morte.
28 É uma honra para um rei governar sobre um povo numeroso,
mas o governante está arruinado se não tiver povo.
29 Quem se mantém calmo é inteligente,
mas quem se irrita facilmente é insensato.
30 A mente tranquila é saúde para o corpo,
mas a inveja causa a doença.
31 Quem explora os pobres ofende o Criador,
mas quem tem compaixão deles honra a Deus.
32 A maldade faz cair os maus,
mas a honestidade[a] protege os justos.
33 A sabedoria está no coração do sábio,
mas no coração do insensato ela não é conhecida.
34 A justiça torna grandes as nações,
mas o pecado é a vergonha de qualquer povo.
35 O rei favorece ao ministro inteligente,
mas castiga o indigno.
