Proverbs 14:25-15:6
English Standard Version
25 A truthful witness saves lives,
but one who (A)breathes out lies is deceitful.
26 In the fear of the Lord one has (B)strong confidence,
and (C)his children will have (D)a refuge.
27 The fear of the Lord is (E)a fountain of life,
that one may (F)turn away from the snares of death.
28 In (G)a multitude of people is the glory of a king,
but without people a prince is ruined.
29 Whoever is (H)slow to anger has great understanding,
but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
30 A tranquil[a] heart gives (I)life to the flesh,
but (J)envy[b] makes (K)the bones rot.
31 Whoever oppresses a poor man (L)insults his (M)Maker,
(N)but he who is generous to the needy honors him.
32 (O)The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing,
but (P)the righteous finds refuge in his death.
33 Wisdom (Q)rests in the heart of a man of understanding,
but it makes itself known even in the midst of fools.[c]
34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a reproach to any people.
35 A servant who deals wisely has (R)the king's favor,
but his wrath falls on one who acts shamefully.
15 (S)A soft answer turns away wrath,
but (T)a harsh word stirs up anger.
2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge,
but (U)the mouths of fools pour out folly.
3 (V)The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
keeping watch on the evil and the good.
4 (W)A gentle[d] tongue is (X)a tree of life,
but (Y)perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
5 (Z)A fool (AA)despises his father's instruction,
but (AB)whoever heeds reproof is prudent.
6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure,
but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.
