¹²Hope delayed makes the heart sick;
longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

¹⁹Desire fulfilled is sweet to the taste,
but to turn from evil^(A)
is an abomination to fools.

¹⁹A desire fulfilled is pleasant,
but fools find deviating from evil disgusting.

¹⁷Don’t let your heart envy sinners;^(A)
instead, always fear the Lord.^(B)
¹⁸For then you will have a future,
and your hope will never fade.^(C)
