13 A wise son heeds his father’s instruction,
but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

¹⁰Pride only breeds quarrels,
but wisdom is with people who take advice.

¹⁰Only by pride comes contention,
but with the well-advised is wisdom.

¹³Whoever despises instruction will pay for it,
but he who respects a command will be rewarded.

¹³Whoever despises the word will be destroyed,
but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

¹⁸Poverty and shame come to him who refuses discipline,
but he who heeds correction shall be honored.

¹⁸Poverty and shame will be to him who refuses instruction,
but he who regards reproof will be honored.
