13 A wise son listens to^[a] the discipline of his father,
but a mocker doesn’t listen to correction.

¹⁰Only by insolence is strife set up,
and wisdom is with those who take advice.

¹⁰The empty-headed cause conflict out of pride;
those who take advice are wise.

¹³He who despises a word will bring destruction on himself,
but he who respects a commandment will be rewarded.

¹³Trouble will come on those who despise a word,
but those who respect the commandment will be rewarded.

¹⁸Poverty and disgrace belong to him who ignores instruction,
but he who guards reproof will be honored.

¹⁸Poverty and shame come to those who don’t care about instruction;
honor belongs to those who heed correction.
