But the way of the wicked makes them wander about.

But the friend of fools will suffer harm.

As you have not known lips of knowledge there.

And a brother is born for adversity.

²⁴ A man of too many friends comes to ^[a]ruin,
But there is ^(A)a ^[b]friend who sticks closer than a brother.

¹⁶ Have you ^(A)found honey? Eat only enough for you,
Lest you have more than your fill and vomit it.
¹⁷ Let your foot rarely be in your neighbor’s house,
Lest he have more than his fill of you and hate you.

²⁴ He who ^[a]divides the spoil with a thief hates his own soul;
He ^(A)hears the oath but declares nothing.
